March 2019

In English, we are continuing to read 'Stormbreaker,' using the text to inspire a range of writing styles.  These have included writing letters, character descriptions, setting descriptions before finishing the unit but learning to write for suspense.  The children have worked extremely hard to analyse the techniques used by authors and have implemented this into their own writing.  They should be very proud of themselves.  In addition to this, we have increased the number of SPAG and reading sessions to help children gain further confidence in these areas ready for SATs in the summer term.

In maths, we have looked again at working with percentages and fractions, ratio and BODMAS.  Children are also completing regular arithmetic sessions in order to maintain their flow and confidence with the four operations.  We are also now regularly using TT Rockstars to practise quick timestable recall.

We are coming to the end of our science topic all about 'Animals, including humans'.  Children have finished this topic by conducting a scientific experiment to look at the effects of exercise on our heart rate.  We have also discussed the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Our next topic will be 'Electricity'.
