Poppies, The First World War and Remembrance Sunday.
Year 1 created some gorgeous Poppy art using thumb and finger prints. We looked very carefully at images of real poppies and added stems and leaves by hand using good observational technique.
We considered life during The First World War from the point of view of a child who writes to his father to tell him about what he saw when a huge Zeppelin was shot down by a very brave pilot.
We read the story ‘Flo of the Somme’ and learned that it was not only people who went to war but also animals – dogs, horses, pigeons and even glow-worms. We created medals for these brave animals and drew pictures of animals on the battlefield.
