September

The topic for this term will be focused around the Tudors.  The children started off the term with a Tudor Day, where they were thrust into life as a Tudor.  They had the chance to make a variety of crafts and enjoyed a banquet in the afternoon.  They are now using this day to help them with their learning in the ICE zone.

In literacy, the children have been looking at traditional tales.  They have read a range of fairy tales and have looked at the key features of this genre.  The children will then get the opportunity to write their very own fairy tale.

In maths, they have been learning all about place value.  This has included comparing and ordering numbers up to 1000.  The children have also been practising their estimating skills as well as counting in groups.  Next, the children will be concentrating on addition and subtraction skills, including using written methods.

Our first topic in science is Animals, including humans.  The children will be learning all about nutritional needs in animals and humans and will be considering why these might be different. They will also be learning about the human body with a focus on the skeleton and the muscles in our bodies.
