Today we learned about capacity and weight. The children enjoyed carrying out a variety of activities which tested their estimation skills!

Year 5 enjoyed spending some time outdoors for our Science lesson. We were looking for objects made from natural and man-made materials. We talked about the properties of the different materials and why these materials were chosen to make these objects.

Welcome to the Spring Term! We hope everyone had a fabulous Christmas break.

Year 5 have started the new term by starting our new class book, The Princess' Blankets by poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy.

The book starts:

A princess lived once who was always cold...

We started by looking at the cover and talking about what we thought the book might be about. Some of us thought she might have been cursed, some of us thought she was just being lazy and attention-seeking!

A stranger entered the kingdom and said that he could cure the princess' coldness if the King would allow him to take the princess back to his kingdom to be his wife. We used drama to find out how the people of the town felt about the stranger and what the King and Queen might do.
