The new summer term means a new topic in the ICE zone. This term's topic is 'Home and Away'. Children will be learning all about their surrounding area before making comparisons to our closest neighbour, Europe. The children started the topic by visiting St Neots Museum and partaking in a walking tour of St Neots. It was a great morning and children had the opportunity to explore the history of the town.
In literacy, the children have finished a poetry unit which culminated in the class attending a poetry festival. The children learnt and performed 3 poems. As part of this unit, Year 3 also wrote their own individual or paired poems inspired by Roger McGough's poem, 'The Writer of this Poem.' We are now moving on to persuasive writing where the children will be studying various text types before writing their own persuasive letter.
In maths, the children have been practising their calculation skills for the four operations and applying these in situations involving measures. This has included working with money and measures. The children will also be revisiting 2D and 3D shape. We will also be continuing to complete regular arithmetic tests so that the children can practise their calculation skills.
Our new topic for science is 'Plants'. The children will be exploring the different functions of the parts of the plants as well as investigating what plants need in order to grow. The children will have a number of opportunities to work scientifically during this topic.
