Autumn Term

December 2020

We are quickly approaching the end of the Autumn term and we have a busy few weeks ahead of us. The children are enjoying their last week of our ‘Space’ theme and have been busy playing with rocket ships, catching shooting stars and making phone calls. We have also now completed the phase 2 phonic sounds and have started a few of the phase 3 sounds to take us to the end of the alphabet.

The next few weeks sees the lead up to Christmas and the children are already busily learning songs and dances to share with you. In the classroom we will also be doing lots of Christmas based activities, including creating Christmas cards, Christmas pictures and telephoning the Elves at the North Pole. We will continue to have our whole class teaching sessions covering phonics, maths and topic.

Please keep checking Tapestry for regular updates and to see more pictures of your child’s learning journey.

Christmas Jumper Day

The children all looked amazing in their jumpers and outfits for Christmas Jumper Day this year. They had a great time in Zumba, dancing and playing games to Christmas songs and then took part in Christmas themed activities inside the classroom and outside. Thank you for all of your kind donations.

Christmas Jumper Day

Here are a few pictures of our learning throughout November/December.

November 2020

We started our next half term with our ‘Celebrations’ topic, which included looking at Bonfire Night and Diwali. The children have loved looking at these topics and have had so much fun indoors and outdoors working on the associated activities.  These have included: making firework cards, painting fireworks, building Diva lamps and making Diwali inspired cards. Please keep scrolling to see some pictures of the children.

With Remembrance Day falling in this term, we have also spent time talking about the importance of remembering soldiers who have fought for us. The children created some lovely poppies which are displayed outside the main reception. Be sure to take a look!

Children have also started their Woodland Wednesdays where they get to work outside with Miss Jarvis, developing their confidence and team building skills in a variety of activities including den building and tree climbing (supervised of course).

The children are really working hard on their phonics and are becoming so much more confident with the sounds we have learned so far. They are even starting to blend, which is really tricky at first, but we are so proud of how hard they are all trying.

We still have lots to look forward to this term, so keep coming back to see what we’ve been doing.

Children in Need 2020

We had a fantastic day on Friday celebrating Children in Need. We spent a little bit of time talking about what Children in Need is all about and then got busy with lots of activities, including mask making, colouring and even helped Pudsey find his spots for his bandana in our outside activity. You will find a few photos below. Thank you for helping your children with their outfits (the classroom was very colourful) and for your generous donations.

September - October 2020

The children have all settled into EYFS so well this year and are now in the full swing of busy learning in our class.  Children have a phonics, maths and a topic based learning session everyday followed by lots of learning through play both indoors and outdoors. In addition to this, children will have 1-2-1 reading sessions at least once per week.

So far this term, we have now covered the following sounds: SATPIN. The children are becoming more confident in correctly saying the sounds and are also beginning to recognise them in short words.  This takes lots of practise and we will continue to work hard on this.

In maths, children have been learning all about numbers 1 to 5 and have worked hard on various activities to consolidate this learning.  This includes through stories, songs as well as independent and group based activities.  The children have particularly enjoyed meeting the Numberblocks!

We updated Tapestry regularly with details about your child's learning and with any important communication so please ensure to check this regularly.

We are so proud of how well the children are doing and have really enjoyed getting to know them this term.  Here are just a few photos of our busy lives in EYFS.
