Hello Year 5 and parents!
You were given a pack of activities on Friday to take home.
At the front of that pack is guidance to how much Maths and English you need to complete daily - I have also uploaded this below.
We are expecting 30 minutes a day reading plus 45 minutes Maths Whizz and 15 minutes TT Rockstars, if you do more that's fantastic!
On the overleaf of the first page (also below) there are a range of 12 activities, from English to Science to Topic to Computing, for the children to complete over the seven days before Easter break. These activities are to be completed by the children to the best of their abilities in their blue homework book.
X Not compulsory - Extra Activities X
Reading is vitally important, they have brought home 2 books and there are links below to more reading activities. Below, I will be posting lesson videos below by Gareth Metcalfe from I See Maths the children can watch and take part in if they would like. Spellings for this week have been sent home and also in the pack we have included the year 5 & 6 spellings list - it would be great if you could test your children on some of these over the next 7 days. In the pack I have included 3 different guided reading texts and questions, we do guided reading daily and these are similar to what we would complete - this is not compulsory however it would be good to keep their brains answering different questions about books. Also in the pack are SPaG Workouts, which will be vital in them remembering key grammar facts but again these are not compulsory. Each day I would like the children to complete a workout activity, I have uploaded 8 minute activities from The Body Coach TV below and Joe Wicks is also doing live 30 minute workout videos from 9am everyday but it can be an activity of your own choosing.
If the children are confused by anything, I will be on Class Dojo for any questions that have arisen or just a check in if they want to say hello.
If you would like a more structured timetable for your children I have created learning pages on the bottom of our year 5 page (where you see Autumn Term, Spring Term and Summer Term). These include activities to do every day that link with our timetable in school - again these are only for the families that want them and they are not compulsory but will offer a more structured day.
Thank you for your continued support over the next 7 days, it is really appreciated!
This is a really good idea if you don’t want your children to eat you out of house and home. From personal experience, in the holidays I can’t stop eating at random times of the day even if I’m not hungry and I’m sure your children are the same.
Give them a spending limit each day and have them work out if a 17p packet of crisps is worth it or will a 3p orange do better? Plan in the expense of breakfast, lunch and dinner if you’re feeling like they’re eating more than they would on a normal school day. Obviously the above price list is a guide for KS1 children so make it a tad harder by not using multiples of 2, 5 or 10. Let me know if this is working on the Facebook page, I’d love to see it in action!
Extra Learning Below
Below I have added extra English and Maths subsections that are not compulsory but if your child would like to complete them they are more than welcome. Please done feel obliged to complete, it is only if you and your child would like to!
