February
We start February by continuing our learning about animals. The children enjoyed reading the book 'Rumble in the Jungle'. We loved looking at the language used in the book to describe the animals and how they behave, and of course we enjoyed acting out some of the animal sounds and movements too. Our next story will be 'Pig in the Pond' and will be the last animal themed book to finish this half term's topic. In maths, we are building on our learning of numbers moving onto numbers 6, 7, 8. We will be doing lots of number recognition activities as well as sorting and matching games. We also celebrated Valentine’s Day by making cards for our friends and family and read the story of Saint Valentine to help us to understand why we mark this day.

A new half term means a new topic for us in Reception. This half term our topic is ‘Come Outside’ and our books will be linked to the natural world and changes in our seasons. It’s a lovely time to start spotting the early signs of spring and to focus our learning on the world around us. In maths, we will continue to work on numbers 6, 7 and 8 before moving onto numbers 9 and 10. We are continuing to learn about alternative spellings in phonics and we are building up the amount of tricky words that we are learning. Lots of fun coming up this half term so please keep checking back here and of course we will update Tapestry on a regular basis too.
