Our Ice Zone topic this term is the Ancient Egyptians. Throughout the topic the children will cover a range of history and geography objectives.
The children have enjoyed learning how to mummify an apple and will observe and record the changes, through weighing, throughout the term. We have also started to design and create death masks and written our names and a resolution in hieroglyphics.
In their geography sessions, the children have identified where Egypt is on a world map and learned lots of facts about the River Nile.
The Tin Forest
In English this term, our focus text is The Tin Forest by Helen Ward and Wayne Anderson.
To start the unit, the children focused on the description of the setting and created their own image. We identified important key vocabulary such as expanded noun phrases.
The children have written a diary entry in role as the main character, focusing on his feelings about being alone in a cold and dreary place. We also used the text to identify key conjunctions (subordinating and coordinating).
Art with Mr Cornell
Year 3 and 4 have enjoyed creating artefacts for the Egyptian tomb, especially creating the sarcophagus. The children used a range of techniques to paint and create the effect they wanted. We also enjoyed learning to use digital art to create images of Egyptian sculptures. Thank you Mr Cornell for teaching us!
