Hello everyone and welcome back!
I can hardly believe that we are in the SUMMER TERM already! Wow!
It has been so lovely to see all of your wonderful smiling faces back in school already this term and I know that good things are to come!
We have a very busy but very exciting term in Year 6. Although we do not have the SATs this year, that does not mean the hard work is over! We have lots to do to get ourselves ready for secondary school! Also this term we have got swimming! Every Wednesday, you will need to make sure to bring in your swimming kit as we will be heading over to the pool for our swimming lessons.
We are also keeping our fingers and toes crossed that the roadmap out of the pandemic keeps going well as this will also mean that we can go on our residential trip to Hilltop!
For our last art lesson of the half term, the children have been using clay to create a sculpture based on their drawing of emotion in the style of Kathe Kollowitz. The children used the clay to shape the head and exaggerate the features, using smaller pieces of clay to create definition in the face. I think it is safe to say that the children enjoyed getting just a little bit mucky!
In maths, we have been learning about ratio and proportion and using scale factors to increase the size of a shape.
Our science topic has now come to an end! To wrap up the topic 'Evolution and Inheritance' the children have extracted DNA from a strawberry. The children thoroughly enjoyed the experiment and worked scientifically to obtain a result! Plus the classroom smelt like strawberries all day!
