November
Welcome back to a new half term! We start this half term by continuing our 'Celebrations' work. The children have been learning about Bonfire Night by listening to the story of the 'Gunpowder Plot' and are beginning to understand why we celebrate Bonfire Night. Of course the children made some fantastic firework themed work which you will see in the pictures below. Later in the term we will be looking at nursery rhymes, traditional tales and fairy tales before the excitement of Christmas begins.
Alongside this, we continue to learn our phonic sounds. The children look forward to our phonics lessons everyday and are always desperate to know what the new sound of the day is. They are all trying really hard to blend words together and we can see that the children are starting to gain more confidence here.
Our maths work this half term starts with looking more deeply at numbers 1, 2 and 3. We will be playing lots of games to support their number recognition, subitising skills and in developing their maths vocabulary.
We are enjoying learning all about traditional tales. So far we have read ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ and ‘Goldilocks and the three bears’. The children have loved looking at different versions of the story and have talked about how they are the same or different. They have produced some lovely pieces of work in their busy learning too. We have also looked at some new words like ‘enormous’ and ‘guilty’ and are encouraging the children to use these words independently. We have lots of wonderful stories still to come.
Of course, we are starting to look forward to Christmas and so the children have been busy practising the nativity songs whenever we get a chance. They really enjoy our singing time together and are fantastic at learning new songs. We can’t wait to show you.
