Week commencing 24th September

It's been another lovely week in Reception. We have continued to learn about ourselves, focussing on the senses this week. We have been talking about how we smell, touch, taste, hear and listen to things, and how important our senses are.

In maths we have been exploring weighing, focussing on the terms heavy and light, and solving problems. In our continuous provision we have been writing CVC words, making collage pictures, and role-playing with our baby and prams!

We have also been enjoying the Autumn weather, going for a walk in the wooded area and spotting all of the different coloured leaves on the ground. We collected leaves, berries and nuts together and stuck them to our paper - it was a lot of fun!

We have also started learning new sounds in phonics, and practising blending these sounds to form words - for e.g. t-a-p...tap. Please continue to practise at home. Next week we will be learning the sounds "i, n, and m" and continuing to practise blending.

On Monday I sent home a phonics at home pack. It contains lots of material to help your child with reading and writing at home, including game ideas and a letter formation sheet.

Have a brilliant weekend, Miss Latimer

Week commencing 17th September

Great job Reception for completing your first week at school full-time! It’s been a busy one, as we’ve been learning all about each other and making friends. This week we have been introducing our topic “All About Me” and thinking about what makes us all different and unique. The children shared their All About Me booklets with the group, talking about their family, and things that are special to them. Reception have also been enjoying staying for their school lunch – yum!

Next week we will be focussing on taking turns and building friendships and relationships. We will also be looking at weighing, and the changes taking place as we move from Summer to Autumn.

On Monday I will send home a “Helping with Phonics at Home” pack explaining more about what phonics is and how you can support your child in this area at home. We will be starting Phase 2 of phonics next week, looking at the sounds “s, a, t, and p”.

On Wednesday we will be having our first P.E. lesson, so please ensure that your child has a named P.E. kit at school. Thank you.

Have a good, restful weekend, Miss Latimer
