Year 6

Welcome to Oak!

Welcome to Year 6!

Here in Year 6 we are embarking on a busy but fun filled year! There are lots of exciting things ahead of us but also lots of hard work! In Year 6 we spend every day learning how to be the BEST that we can be!

This year, we will be learning about many different subjects from art to French! We will be linking lots of our learning to our topic work. This year our topics are: British Explorers and the Empire, Extreme Earth & Civil Rights!

We look forward to having lots of learning fun with you all this year!

Miss Gardner & Mrs Ashcroft

Hello everyone,

Based on the extension of the lockdown restrictions we have had to make some changes to the planned transition days for the Year 6s. Unfortunately, it means that the children will only go on onetransition dayinstead of two. Please see below the information I have received today from Ernulf and Longsands regarding the transition.

I will update you with more information as and when I have it. In the meantime, if you do have any questions, I will endeavour to answer as many as possible.

I am still to hear from Cambourne, but will be in touch ASAP with more info.

Thank you for your patience and co-operation in these unusual times.

Have a good weekend!
Miss Gardner

From Ernulf & Longsands:

Further to the guidance issued by the DfE and local authority in relation to transition visits to secondary schools, Ernulf and Longsands have worked together in order that Year 6 children are still able to benefit from a transition experience whilst also maintaining their bubbles to ensure a safe return to their primary schools. To enable us to protect the bubbles, we are able to offer a one day transition experience for all Year 6 children on one of the two original transition dates. We have ensured that the cohort from each primary school will be visiting the two secondaries on the same day to assist you in your own transition processes. The days are as follows:

Tuesday 29th
Great Paxton

Wednesday 30th

Little Paxton

St Mary’s

Gt Staughton

We anticipate that the children will be placed in classrooms with their peers from their own primary school, except where numbers of children are fewer than 6, in which case, we will accommodate two groups in one classroom on opposite sides of the room with the usual covid protective measures in place (open doors/windows). Children will remain in these groups for social times in addition to when they are in a classroom. Seating plans will be created for all spaces that the children will be using in case of the need for contact tracing.

We do hope that this will provide the Year 6 students with a positive experience of secondary school prior to September but also alleviates your concerns about safety in relation to covid –and those of parents/carers.

Each school will communicate with you directly once final arrangements are in place, we wanted to give you as much notice as possible of the dates to give you time to amend your own plans for two days being reduced to one.
