Our October Adventures in Reception
October has been another fun-filled month in Reception with lots of exciting learning and activities!
In maths, we made our very own counting wands and used them to count as we walked around the garden – it was a magical way to practise our numbers!
We spent time learning all about feelings and how to manage our big emotions. We used the story of The Colour Monster to help us understand different feelings and talked about what we can do to feel better. Some of the things we did included:
- Sorting coloured buttons into groups
- Mixing colours using pipettes and coloured water
- Painting our hands and rubbing them together to see what new colours we could make
- Making our own monsters using toilet roll tubes – they looked amazing!
Our topic this month was People Who Help Us. We:
- Took part in role play, pretending to put out fires using coloured shaving foam and water pipettes
- Learned about different people who help us, like doctors, vets, and firefighters
- Painting pictures of the people who help us
- Pretended to be doctors and vets – we were very busy helping all our patients!
We’ve had a brilliant October and can’t wait to see what learning adventures November will bring!
Happy Diwali!
To celebrate Diwali, we have been taking part in a range of colourful and creative activities. We made beautiful rangoli patterns using coloured rice, sand, and loose parts beads in playdough. We designed our own intricate Mendhi patterns, painted bright fireworks, and created special Diwali cards to mark the festival of lights.
Happy Halloween!
To celebrate Halloween, we have been getting creative with lots of fun activities. We made spooky ghosts and pumpkins using different craft materials, and used golf tees and hammers to decorate real pumpkins. We also enjoyed an exciting skeleton hunt, digging through the sand to find puzzle pieces and putting them together to build a complete skeleton!
