Summer Term
Monarchs
The children learnt all about what a monarch is and what jobs one would have to do in modern times. They then made crowns and suggested how they would rule as a monarch.
Reduce, reuse, recycle
In science, year 2 explored what materials would be good to reuse. We then looked at what recycling meant and made designs for how we would recycle a cardboard box.
Children learned about the different stages of the plant life cycle, linking this to their prior knowledge of human life cycles and understanding the role of reproduction. To consolidate their learning, each child represented a stage of the life cycle, arranged themselves in the correct order on the playground, and used chalk to draw arrows between each stage.
Geography - postcards
We explored China’s human and physical features through making colourful postcards.
PSHE
In PSHE, we explored ways to care for our environment both inside and outside the classroom. During assembly, a mischievous child made our classroom very messy, so we began by working together to tidy it up. We then discussed different ways we can look after our classroom before taking a walk around the school to identify other areas and things we can help take care of.
Year 2 Music - pitch patterns
The children explored how to read pitch patterns and interpret simple musical notation. They then applied this understanding by playing the patterns on a tuned glockenspiel.
