September
We’ve had a fantastic start to the school year, settling into our new classroom and routines with lots of excitement and curiosity.
We began the term with our topic "Marvellous Me", which helped us get to know each other and explore what makes each of us unique. As part of this topic, we:
- Took part in role play activities like looking after babies and pretending to be hairdressers to practise our cutting skills
- Made faces using paper plates and learned how to take care of ourselves by brushing our teeth and making healthy food choices
- Practised doing up buttons
- Talked about what makes us special and celebrated how we are all different
- Learned about birthdays and why we celebrate them – we made playdough birthday cakes and counted the right number of candles
- Explored sequencing and how we grow from babies to toddlers to children
- Made jam sandwiches for a party to help us learn about sequencing – and we loved eating them afterwards!
- Designed and decorated our own colourful party hats
In phonics, we’ve started learning our initial sounds through fun games and songs. So far, we’ve learned:
s, a, t, p, i, n – and we’re really enjoying singing our alphabet chant too!
To celebrate Autumn, we’ve taken part in lots of seasonal activities, including:
- Planting flowers and picking out sunflower seeds
- Painting pictures of flowers and autumn trees
- Using natural resources to help with our counting in maths
- Rolling conkers through water
We also had our very first PE lesson, where we played parachute games and worked together to keep the ball on the parachute – it was so much fun!
