Autumn 2024
DT - In small groups we created a recipe for spaghetti bolognese. We thought carefully about the ingredients and how to make our recipe a little different. Mr Smith tasted them all and was very impressed.
Music - After our hard work writing and rehearsing over the past few weeks, here we are performing our musical theatre scene - The Journey.
Science - In our materials topic we are thinking about changes. Here we are finding out that some changes are reversible. We have also found out about changes that are irreversible like cooking an egg, making concrete, burning and rusting.
Music - Our topic is Musical Theatre. We have considered the features, history and looked at clips from shows. We are in the process of writing, rehearsing and performing our own musical scene called The Journey. We are using the song 'I'm gonna be 500 miles' to base our scene around. In small groups, we have written dialogue, practised dancing and singing.
Sean Rose Visit - Today we had a visit from Paralympian Sean Rose. He led a circuit training session to help us raise funds for PE/sports equipment. Sean also told us all about his journey and accomplishments.
Here are some pictures of us working hard on our exercises!
PSHE - Our new topic is - Health and Wellbeing. Today we thought about ways to relax both our body and our mind. We tried some yoga.
English
So far this year, our English has been based around the book Arthur and the Golden Rope.
Among the different text types we have used are
- character description of the main character, Arthur
- non-chronological report on Norse Gods
- diary entry from Arthur's perspective
- recount/ description of Arthur's journey
- prediction of the ending
The class really enjoyed following Arthur on his quest and finding out why he was the unlikeliest of heroes!
Science - Here we are investigating properties of materials. Over the last couple of lessons we have investigated transparency and thermal insulators.
Science - Our new topic is - Materials - Properties and Changes.
Today we investigated the property - hardness. We used a scratch test to determine and order the hardness of different materials.
French - Our new topic is '- Shopping in France. Today we learnt some new vocabulary - French words for different fruits. We discovered some words are very similar to English and some words have a link to an English word...
We used flash cards to help us learn the fruit words. We matched the French words to the pictures and then played matching pairs.
PSHE 10.10.24 Today is World Mental Health Day - We took some time to practise ways to calm and relax us. We tried 'belly breathing' this helps our brain to get more oxygen and release happy chemicals for our wellbeing. We also tried 'body scanner' thinking about each part of our body in turn. We decided this could be a good technique to help us relax at bedtime.
In our PSHE lessons this week we have thought about showing respect to ourselves. We discussed 4 ways - Positive self-talk, Self-care, Asserting boundaries and Recognising our strengths and achievements.
We created shields to show our strengths.
Science: Over the last couple of lessons, we have learnt about two different methods of separation - sieving and filtering.
Science: Our first topic is - Materials: Mixtures and Separation. Today we found out about mixtures and made our own.
