Spelling Homework: Due Friday 25th November
Today, the children have been learning about air resistance in science and have conducted an experiment where they made two different size parachutes and tested which one would fall to the floor quickest.
This week, the children of Year 5 and 6 were lucky enough to have a visit from Marshall’s to teach them all about road safety! The children learned about the different types of crossings, how to cross safely and most importantly about respecting lorries’ blind spots! The finished up the visit with a demonstration of how the crane works and even got to sit in the cab!
This week, the children of Year 5 have been busy contributing to our school community and making poppies for our Remembrance Day display. They have learnt about the importance of remembrance and showed excellent respect during our 2 minute silence at 11am on Friday 11th November.
It was very busy indeed for us last week in Year 5! In addition to all of our wonderful work in school, we also ventured out to our DLPT sports event where the children competed against children from other Year 5 classes. They had a fantastic morning and worked really hard! We came second (which was fantastic!) and Agne proudly told Mrs Besant that they gave it their all to be the best they could be!
Last week, the children were busy revisiting their learning on regular and irregular past tense verbs. The children worked together, looking at a picture of Where’s Wally to find all of the action verbs within the picture. From there, the children converted these to past tense then sorted them into regular and irregular verbs. And yes, we did also find Wally and the wizard!
It has been another successful ‘Green Day’ at Middlefield! The children of Year 5 & 6 have taken on a Dragon’s Den environmental innovation task designing and pitching prototypes to help the environment. There were some wonderful ideas and the children did a brilliant job of creating a prototype. After our Dragon’s Den session, the children went outside for a short outdoor learning session with Miss Jarvis where the children planted seed balls all over the woodland area.
This week in art, the children have been learning about self portraits. As part of the project, the children have done a line drawing, which they have followed with words about themselves - this has created an image in the shape of a face. They have then used coloured paper to accentuate the features. Stayed turned for the final piece!
