Summer term
Sports day 2024
English
We were able to prepare a fresh pomegranate to help us with writing instructions. There were several steps to remember! This gave us the opportunity to try the pomegranate too, there were mixed opinions. As a follow up we then created our own pomegranate factfiles - finding out lots of unusual and interesting information, we are now experts!
Year 4 trust sports event at Winhills
On Tuesday afternoon we walked over to Winhills to participate alongside other year 4 pupils from different schools within the trust. We took part in netball, rounders and athletics events. It was a fun opportunity to develop our team work skills. We are incredibly proud of all of the children for taking part.
DT
An enjoyable afternoon was spent tasting a variety of different biscuits and recording our thoughts. This was the start of our new DT project. We will be designing our own biscuits, taking into account target audiences and budgeting for ingredients. Watch this space for the final products!
Outdoor learning
Science
Continuing with our topic of sound, we investigated the relationship between sound and distance. Using a decibel meter and some careful measuring of distance, we worked in groups to explore this. We recorded our results in a table and discovered that as distance increases, volume decreases.
Art
In our art lessons we have been learning about sculpture and 3D art. These are our creations using recyclable resources. The task was to experiment with ways of joining materials together and exploring texture and colour. I’m sure you will agree from the pictures, the children were proud of their work.
Things got a bit more delicate when we used wire to sculpt. With templates as a guide, butterflies, birds, shoes and shells were bent and twisted from the fine wire. The classroom has never been so quiet as all focus was needed on what turned out to be a very engaging piece of art.
Maths
Using polypad, we explored fractions. This was a fun, interactive way to look at the relationships between fractions. We have been learning about mixed numbers and improper fractions.
