October
This month we are continuing to learn about ourselves, our family and our communities as part of our 'All About Me' topic. The children loved looking back at their baby pictures and discussing how they have already changed. We are also well on the way with our phonics lessons. The children have been learning new sounds daily and are already beginning to blend and segment some simple words. We have been really impressed with how quickly they are developing these new skills. This half term the children will learn: s a t p i n m d g o c k ck e u and r.
The season is starting to change now too so the children have been exploring lots of learning outdoors looking at the seasonal changes and playing with natural products such as conkers. We have also worked hard to make some lovely autumnal art including wreaths and tree paintings.
In maths the children have been learning about matching and sorting. They love to visit the maths area and play the various games and activities available.
This week, we have been talking about some of the things that we like to celebrate in our lives including birthdays and Halloween. The children decided that all good parties need party food and so we decided to have a go at making jam sandwiches. The children used cutlery to carefully make a sandwich each and then of course finished with a taste test.
In PE we are continuing to work on our movement skills by playing lots of different games. The children are now also practising moving around while holding and manipulating a ball. It was great to see so many different ideas. We are also practising our throwing and catching skills.
