January
Welcome back to a new term in Attenborough class. We have lots of fun learning planned. Our topic this half term is ‘Amazing Animals’. We will be reading lots of animal themed books which will form the theme for our weekly activities. We are looking forward to learning about animals and their habitats and will of course be creating art and craft activities linked to this. Next month we will also spend some time learning about Lunar New Year - this year is the year of the snake!
Of course we will be continuing our phonics and maths lessons alongside this. In phonics we will be learning new digraphs starting with ‘qu’ and ‘ch’ and will continue to consolidate our previous learned GPCs. In maths, we start by looking deeper at numbers 0-5 before moving on to numbers 6, 7and 8. We will also learn about mass and capacity.
The children have already been busy exploring a new season outside. The freezing weather has provided so many learning opportunities. We have been able to talk about the change in seasons and have enjoyed various experiments about freezing and melting. We are now busy planning what plants we are hoping to grow later the year.
Safari Stu
We loved having Safari Stu come to visit us at Middlefield. He brought all kinds of animals with him including snakes, cockroaches, a chameleon, a lesser hedgehog and a tortoise. We enjoyed learning some new facts about these animals and were particularly excited to hold many of the animals. We will use this experience to help our learning this term on 'Amazing Animals'.
