Spring
Art - drawing houses
The children enjoyed drawing houses in Art. They had to try and draw what they see, the results were amazing.
Science: Properties and Changes of Materials
The children loved watching the experiments in science. We investigated what was needed for things to burn and talked about reversible and irreversible changes.
Cooking
Today the children had a fantastic afternoon cooking their Spaghetti Bolognaise. The smells throughout the school were mouth watering. All the children came back from cooking thrilled with the result.
RE
The children enjoyed searching the room for facts about Sikhism.
News Bulletins - Tuesday 7th February
The class showed excellent teamwork this week, rehearsing and performing their news bulletins to the class. They had to deliver the news of forest fires in Portugal and include an interview with someone 'on location.' Each group had a director to keep their group on track and make sure they hit the brief, and we really enjoyed watching each group's performance. Well done Year 5 - lots of budding news presenters!
Archaeologist visit
Today we all enjoyed a visit from some archaeologists. We learnt, what an archaeologist does and what they have found on their dig along the new A428 route. They then got to practice some weaving, to make their own basket, just as a 9 year old would have done 2000 years ago.
Drawing in art
The children loved looking at different ways of drawing. We used a variety of materials to re draw part of a picture, which was inspired by space.
Week commencing 9th January 2023
This week the children in science we have been looking at the rotation of the Earth and how this creates night and day and cause the sun to appear to move across the sky.
In art we have continues to look at pictures which have been inspired by space. The children were able to have a go at using different materials to recreate parts of a picture.
In French today the children have been looking at French clues to discover where French is spoken in the world.
In PSHE we looked at why sleep was so important and what we need to do, to get a good nights sleep.
in English was have continued to look at the story “Clockwork”. We have summarised part of the story and we have begun to think about the features we need in a travel brochure.
First week back
It has been so lovely seeing the kids back after their Christmas break! They have all come back ready to learn, they have really made me proud this week.
In English this week, we have started our new book “Clockwork” which seems to have captured their attention and imagination.
We have also started our new topic of “Earth and Space” in Science, “I need space” in Art, “French speaking world” in French, and we started talking about “Heath and well-being” in PSHE today.
In PSHE we looked into the art and science of yoga, as well as practicing some ourselves. Please enjoy the pictures of the children trying this out.
