Summer sports day 2024
Science - Today we investigated lever length. How far could we catapult the counter with long and short levers?
Science - Our topic is 'Forces' - This week we investigated friction and how increased weight affects braking.
Great Artists Week
Just before half term, each class studied a famous artist and created artwork inspired by the artist they looked at.
In Hawking Class, we looked at Salvador Dali, a leading artist in the surrealism movement. We were fascinated by his famous painting "The Persistence of Memory" with it's melting clocks. We also looked at other imagery that featured strongly in his work, including animals with elongated, disproportionate legs, human body parts and butterflies.
Here are some of our finished pieces.
Artwork inspired by Salvador Dali
We made pop-up books in Design Technology. The brief was to design and make a book aimed at Year 1 children with a moving part on each page. We tried out different mechanisms, designed our book layout and constructed them. Some wrote original stories, others drew from nursery rhymes and fairy tales.
We then shared them with our target audience! The books were well received as you can see from these photos!
Well done, Hawking Class and thank you Year 1 for being fantastic listeners!
